Privacy Policy
Effective September 3, 2026
Segno is a small company that makes a screenless speaker and printed music cards. This page explains, in plain language, what information we handle when you use playsegno.com or a Segno speaker, and what we do with it. The short version: we collect what we need to take your order, print your cards and ship them; we never see your payment card; we never see your Spotify password or keep a copy of your library; and we do not sell your information to anyone.
What we collect when you order
When you buy a Starter Set or new cards, we collect:
- Your name, email address, and shipping address, so we can ship your order and reach you about it.
- Your song picks (the titles, artists, albums, and playlists you choose), so we can print your cards and link them to the right music.
- Order details such as what you bought, the amount, and the date.
Payment happens on Stripe. Card numbers go directly to Stripe, our payment processor, and never touch our servers. Stripe's handling of your payment information is covered by Stripe's privacy policy.
What we access when you connect Spotify
Connecting Spotify is optional. It lets you browse your own library on this site, pick music for cards, and see your order history. When you connect:
- We read your library (your saved albums, playlists, and liked songs) so you can browse and search it here. We fetch it live from Spotify and do not keep a copy on our servers.
- We read the email address on your Spotify account, only to match you with orders placed under that email.
- On this website, your Spotify sign-in tokens are stored in a cookie on your own device, not on our servers. Disconnecting removes it.
- We never see your Spotify password, and we cannot change anything in your Spotify account. The website's connection is read-only.
Your speaker is different. A Segno speaker needs its own connection to your Spotify account so it can play music when a card is tapped. When you set up a speaker, its sign-in token is stored in our order system (Airtable, below) for as long as the speaker is registered to you, so it keeps working without you signing in again. Ask us and we will remove it, which stops the speaker until you connect it again.
Your use of Spotify is covered by Spotify's privacy policy. Segno is not affiliated with Spotify.
What we keep about your Spotify account, and for how long
- Your Spotify email address. Kept with your order records and with any keywords you save, so we can show you your orders. Deleted when those records are deleted.
- Website sign-in tokens. Only in the cookie on your device, until you disconnect or the cookie expires after a year.
- Speaker sign-in token. In our order system while your speaker is registered to you. Removed on request.
- Your song picks. Kept with your order, for as long as we keep order records (see below), so we can reprint a damaged card or answer a question about your set.
- Keywords you add to music on the Your Library page. Kept until you remove them or ask us to.
- Your library itself. Never stored by us. A temporary list lives in your own browser to make searching faster, and you can clear it by disconnecting.
Cookies and browser storage
We use no advertising or analytics cookies. The site sets:
- segno_sp: your Spotify connection, described above. Kept until you disconnect.
- segno_state and segno_next: short-lived cookies (ten minutes) that protect the Spotify sign-in flow.
- Local browser storage for conveniences like the picks you have selected and a temporary copy of your library list for faster searching. This stays in your browser and never reaches our servers.
Where your information lives
We use a small number of service providers to run Segno, and your information is shared with them only so they can do their jobs for us:
- Stripe processes payments and emails your receipt. Stripe sees your name, email, and shipping address, and handles your card entirely on its side.
- Airtable stores our order records: your name, email, shipping address, song picks, keywords, and the speaker sign-in token described above.
- Cloudflare hosts this website and, like most hosts, keeps standard technical logs (such as IP addresses) to run and protect the service. If we turn on Cloudflare Web Analytics, it counts page views without cookies and without identifying you.
- Spotify provides the music and the sign-in. What you play through a speaker is visible to Spotify the same way it is when you play music in the Spotify app.
- Email. Order receipts come from Stripe. If we send our own order updates, they go out through Resend, an email delivery service, from an address ending in notify.playsegno.com. Resend sees your email address and the message.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
Automated tools and AI
We build and run Segno with the help of AI assistants (currently Anthropic's Claude). They help us write this website and, from time to time, help us manage our order records, for example to back them up or to find an order when you write in. When that happens the assistant works under our own account and our instructions, and the information it sees is not used to train AI models under the settings we use. No decision about you, your order, or your refund is made automatically; a person makes those. We do not use AI to profile you or to send you marketing.
How long we keep it
- Order records (name, email, address, what you bought, your song picks): seven years after the order, which is what tax and accounting rules ask of a small business, then deleted.
- Website Spotify connection: on your device only, until you disconnect or a year passes.
- Speaker sign-in token: while your speaker is registered to you, then removed.
- Keywords: until you remove them or ask us to.
- Backups of our order records are kept alongside them and deleted on the same schedule.
- Technical logs at Cloudflare: a matter of days, under Cloudflare's own retention.
Your choices
- Disconnect Spotify any time from the Your Library or Your Orders page.
- Ask us about your data. You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us and we will take care of it. Depending on where you live, these may also be legal rights, and we honor them regardless.
- Email from us is about your order. We do not send marketing email unless you ask for it.
- Analytics. There are no advertising trackers here, so there is nothing to opt out of.
Children
Segno is made for children to use, but the website and store are for adults. Only an adult can place an order or connect a Spotify account, and the speaker collects nothing about the child tapping the cards. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top. A meaningful change will be called out plainly, not buried.
